New! (Click): Peter Singer Under Fire: The Moral Iconoclast Faces His Critics
Edited by Jeffrey A. Schaler
Take a summer Distant Education (DE) course with Jeff Schaler during 2010.
I'll be teaching two courses over the Internet using BlackBoard through American University: "Drugs, Alcohol and Society" and "Law, Psychology and Justice."
In the first course you learn about the myth of addiction as a disease, and how mindset, values, and how people avoid coping with their environments are more accurate
ways of explaining addiction than the chemical properties of drugs, a mythical genetic predisposition towards addiction, and tolerance
and withdrawal. Click here for last years' syllabus for "Drugs, Alcohol and Society" (JLS-303-N01L-2009XN: Drugs, Alcohol and Society).
In the second course you learn about the myth of mental illness. Click here for the syllabus for
"Law, Psychology and Justice" (JLS-333-N01L-2009XN: Law, Psychology and Justice). See past syllabi by clicking here.
Fall 2009 courses: JUSTICE, MORALITY & THE LAW (JLS-308-001-2009F), LAW, PSYCHOLOGY AND JUSTICE (JLS-333-001-2009F), and
DEPRIVATION OF LIBERTY (JLS-200-002-2009F). Click here for a list of some of the books you need for the fall courses. Note, this list is
incomplete. There are many articles that will be required in addition to the books listed.
