The headline of the obituary The Washington Post ran on page C6 of the Metro Section, on Sunday, January 31, 1999, read "Jeffrey A. Schaler Foreign Service Officer." For years I had joked with family and friends that I read the obituaries to make sure my name wasn't in there. This was a first. I actually read my name in the obituaries. The Washington Post never apologized for their mistake.
